Macron: The French government will announce measures to calm the protests

French President Emmanuel Macron said on Monday that Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne will announce "strong measures" to calm the protests in the country, but he also indicated that the upcoming weekend may carry the risk of further unrest.

He told reporters in Marseille on Monday: "I also asked the government to respond to the legitimate demands that lie at the heart of this social movement," according to "AFP".

Borne is scheduled to hold a press conference on Monday after meeting with unions and groups representing high school students.

Macron reiterated what Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said earlier on Monday, when he predicted more protests on Saturday.

France is preparing for a new wave of protests and social strikes extending from the end of October to early December, as unions and the "Yellow Vests" movement continue to pressure the government over the cost of living, wages, and declining public services.
