Low Expectations for Lebanon-Israel Talks Amid Differences Over Verification Mechanism

A military meeting between Lebanon and Israel in Tampa is scheduled for Oct. 20 and 22, a Lebanese source told Al Hadath, expressing limited expectations for the outcome of the talks.

“Israel is not cooperating with the verification mechanism involving the United States,” the source said, adding that Washington understands Beirut’s concerns about Israeli demands.

According to the source, Israel wants to establish a joint operations room with the Lebanese army to verify designated pilot areas. Israel also wants the operations room to remain in place even after the Lebanese army deploys to those areas.
