Gemayel Meets with Beirut Greek Orthodox Archbishop Elias Audi

Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel on Thursday met with Beirut Greek Orthodox Archbishop Elias Audi, with talks featuring high on the latest developments in Lebanon.

During the meeting, Gemayel outlined on the importance of Lebanon’s sovereignty and independence, saying that Hezbollah is controlling the institutions, threatening with surplus power and weapons, and imposing its will on all aspects of the state.

“Hezbollah holds sway over Lebanon; it is leading Lebanon to isolation and confrontation with the international and arab communities. This armed militia continues to challenge the Lebanese people, the Arab countries, and the international community by holding conferences related to Yemen and Bahrain," he stressed.

“Lebanon is not an arena for confrontation, as we have enough problems, and we must distance ourselves from the region's conflicts and not drag our country into them,” he added.

“The speech delivered by Ibrahim Amin al-Sayyed proves that we are dealing with a party that only understands the language of war and violence and does not have a democratic culture that allows it to deal with the elections in an appropriate way,” he said.

Last week, Chairman of Hezbollah’s political council Ibrahim Amin al-Sayyed said that his party considers the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for May 15 “a political July war” .

Gemayel voiced his concern over the terrorist mentality that aims to undermine Lebanon’s stability especially if the results of May elections fail to serve Hezbollah’s will as it could create problems.

He also reiterated the importance of May 2022 electoral process, deeming it as referendum that allows the Lebanese people to voice their rejection over Hezbollah’s policy.

“May 2022 elections are a big challenge so as to rebuild our beloved Lebanon in accordance with new sovereign and national rules to flourish our economy ,” he added.

Gemayel was accompanied by Resigned Kataeb lawmaker Nadim Gemayel, as well as politburo members Alain Hakim, Fadi Haber, Samir Khalaf, Lina Farjallah and Jean Zailaa.
