He was a middle-aged man with a thin white beard and the spent look of someone who had not slept for days. Qatar on Saturday sent another consignment of food aid to the beleaguered Lebanese Army amid the country’s deepening economic crisis.
Here’s what we know:
• In a statement Saturday, the Lebanese Army said that it received at Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport 70 tons of foodstuff sent from Qatar.
• In a program announced in July, Qatar said that it would provide monthly food aid for Lebanon’s military.
• On Dec. 28, Lebanese Army chief General Joseph Aoun and other security chiefs met with President Michel Aoun to reiterate concerns over how the economic crisis was affecting the livelihood of their forces’ personnel.
