Future Movement leader Saad Hariri Calls for Parliamentary Elections to Be Held on Time, amid Speculation on Whether He Will Run

Future Movement leader MP Saad Hariri on Friday called for the parliamentary elections, scheduled to be held on May 15, 2022, to be held on time, amid media reports that he might not run in the upcoming elections.

Here’s what we know:

    • In a tweet ahead of New Year’s Eve in which he voiced hope for a better year in 2022, Hariri called for constitutional deadlines to be adhered to, a reference to the parliamentary elections as well as parliament’s vote for the country’s new president, set to be held at the end of October.

    • This past week, Future Movement MPs have denied media reports that Hariri would not run in the 2022 parliamentary elections. A spokesperson for the party told L’Orient Today that the former premier “will announce his stance at the right time and the party will act accordingly.”

    • On Wednesday, President Michel Aoun signed the decree scheduling the parliamentary elections to be held on May 15, 2022.
