Lebanon Cabinet Crisis Drags as Crisis Deepens

Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati did not visit Baabda Palace Monday to follow up on talks on the stalled Cabinet formation process, a clear signal that differences remained with President Michel Aoun over proposed candidates for key ministries and the distribution of some portfolios.

The Cabinet impasse, nearly a month after Mikati’s appointment as Lebanon’s new premier, comes as a Future Movement lawmaker warned that if Mikati failed to form a new government, the Future Movement would resort to street protests and demand Aoun’s resignation, dissolution of Parliament and holding early parliamentary elections.
