US, French Envoys Say Saudi Talks Focused on 'Desperate' Need for Lebanon Government

The U.S. and French ambassadors to Beirut said Friday they had stressed in talks in Saudi Arabia the "desperate" need for a government in Lebanon that implements reform to rescue the country.

U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Dorothy Shea and French Ambassador to Lebanon Anne Grillo flew to Riyadh Thursday where they held meetings with Saudi officials.

"During this working visit, Ambassadors Grillo and Shea stressed the desperate need for a fully empowered government that is committed to and able to implement reforms, noting that the French and U.S. governments, as well as other like-minded partners, continue extending urgent assistance to the Lebanese people, including health, education, and food support," the two envoys said in a joint statement.
