Gemayel Slams Assad Remarks, Blames Him for Regional Conflicts

Resigned Kataeb lawmaker Nadim Gemayel on Thursday lambasted the remarks made by Syria’s President Bachar Assad stating that Lebanon is responsible for his country’s economic collapse, stressing that he's one that has been drowning the region into conflicts.

“Bashar al-Assad and with all rudeness is blaming us for his country’s economic breakdown,” Gemayel wrote on Twitter.

“Let’s remind this criminal that today we are paying the price of its regime’s filthiness, its occupation and its plunder,” he said.

“We are paying the price of his terror and the one of its allies, the price of the borders through which he smuggles illegal fuel, weapons, drugs and others,” he added.

Earlier today, the Syrian President said that billions of dollars of deposits held by his countrymen in Lebanon's financial sector that were blocked after a major financial crisis were a main cause of Syria's deepening economic crisis.
