Gemayel Meets Kubis, Stresses Need to Form an Independent Government

Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel on Monday met with UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jan Kubis at his office in Bickfaya, with talks featuring high on the latest developments in Lebanon, namely the government’s formation and the country’s economic situation.

“What is required today is to form an independent government that would be able to address the crises the country is currently facing, especially the unbearable economic situation,” Gemayel said following the meeting.

“Once again, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah is in control of the country’s main decisions. We have now returned to making the same mistakes in forming a government that is similar to the previous ones,” he added.

Gemayel voiced regret that no one is realizing the seriousness of the current stage the country is currently going through, calling for an independent government that would be able to gain people’s confidence and the international community.

“For us, Lebanon needs a new start, new people, and a different logic in approaching the issues, away from the political class’s interests that prevent any development of the country,” he added.
