Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel on Wednesday blamed Hezbollah of dividing the country, creating sectarian tension and a state of fear among the Lebanese, saying that no one will accept to live as a hostage under the shadow of the party's arms.

“Hezbollah is the one to blame for how things are currently addressed in the country,” Gemayel told Lebanon Debate website.

“The October 17 revolution has succeeded in breaking Hezbollah by taking down its first government which was headed by former President Saad Hariri. The government that resigned on October 30th was Hezbollah’s government. Thus, the most important weapon with which we can confront the party with is to move across regions and sects exactly as the one it happened on October 17," he said.

Gemayel stressed that the liberation of the Lebanese State does not come through war but rather in a gradual way by withdrawing the parliamentary majority from Hezbollah, and then thinking of a way to reintegrate this party into the Lebanese state.

“For us, Lebanon is being held as a hostage by a militia that controls the country, and our goal is to be liberated from this situation,” he added.

The Kataeb leader recalled the need to form an independent government that would prepare for holding early parliamentary elections, saying that a new government is needed that can implement the needed reforms and open ties with the outside world.
