Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel on Saturday announced the resignation of the party’s three lawmakers from the Parliament following the massive explosion that tore through Beirut's port Tuesday.
Gemayel announced the resignations during the funeral service of Kataeb’s Secretary-General Nazar Najarian who died as a result of his wounds from the Beirut explosion.
“You are a part of me, you have the same values and beliefs as mine. Excuse me for insisting on you to return to your homeland and your family to pursue our fight,” Gemayel said during the funeral.
“We will continue with our struggle stronger than ever. Your testimony will always give us strength,” he added.
Gemayel called on all lawmakers to resign so that the decision would be restored to the Lebanese, deeming parliamentary elections as key to the current crises prevailing over the country.
“Whatever will happen after August the 4th is no similar to what happened before this date,” he said, saying that this day is the turning point between the old and the new Lebanon.
