The Lebanese Kataeb party on Tuesday deemed the government’s resignation as a national duty so that Lebanon would restore its relations with its Arab and international surroundings as well as reinstate its sovereignty and free decision, stressing the need to hold parliamentary elections in a bid to renew the current ruling political class.

“The resignation of Foreign Minister Nassif Hitti has proved the danger of Lebanon’s plunge into a failed State and the government's ongoing failure in handling several issues in the country,” read a statement issued following the weekly meeting of the Kataeb's political bureau held online.

“Instead of establishing a comprehensive review of its failed reality, the executive authority has appointed a new Foreign Minister in a very short period of time which is considered as a great denial for a government seeking its survival at any cost,” the statement said.

The political bureau stressed that the government didn’t need a population condemnation, but rather it doomed on itself  with a catastrophic breakdown and a failure in providing the Lebanese with the safety they need.

The party also followed-up on the initiative launched by the Kataeb’s lawmakers aimed at establishing the neutrality principle, making sure that all parliamentary blocs and independent representatives have received the constitutional amendment proposal.

“The party hoped for everyone to respond with this proposal so that the country would turn to the righteousness of political and security stability,” the statement said.

The meeting kicked off with a minute of silence for the memory and soul of comrade and resistance icon Joceyline Khoueiry who passed away last week after a long battle with illness.
