Demonstrators on Monday took to the streets several areas in Lebanon despite a nationwide coronavirus lockdown in place, in protest against the deteriorating living conditions and dreadful economic situation.
The Zouk-Mosbeh-Jounieh highway was blocked in both directions as well as the Nehmeh’s coastal road.
The army said that the Lebanese have all the right to protest, calling them not to block roads and encroach public and private properties.
On Sunday night, many roads were also blocked with burning tires in the northern districts of Tripoli and Akkar, the eastern Bekaa Valley as well the Beirut-south Lebanon.
Public anger has been rising in recently as citizens are losing their purchasing power, many having lost their jobs or half their wages in the past few months.
