Maronite Patriarch Bechara Al-Rahi on Wednesday called on officials to pave way for reconciliation and preserve the unity in the Chouf area in response to what happened there earlier this month.

"The Patriarch affirms that stability in the Mountain or in any other area in Lebanon relies on the presence of an active government in all of its state institutions, security agencies and judicial authorities,” read a statement issued by the Maronite Patriarchate.

The statement was issued following meetings between the Patriarch and different Lebanese figures and factions such as the Lebanese Progressive Socialist Party and the Democratic Party.
