Gemayel Outlines Kataeb's Steadfastness in Face of Lust for Power

Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel on Saturday reiterated that the party will not get dragged into the power game in which values are compromised to win posts, stressing that the Kataeb has decided to remain steadfast and resist this mentality.

"What's the point of winning posts if we give up ourselves?" Gemayel said during the annual dinner of the Kataeb's Jbeil sector.

"The Kataeb party has taken a hard decision to not relinquish our constants for the sake of power," he added.

Gemayel called on the Lebanese to not get drifted along by the "deceptive" political discourse that is being adopted recently, stressing that the true Christian is the one who lives by the principles and values of this religion.

"You cannot be a Christian and a dictator at the same time. You cannot be a Christian while spreading lies and corruption. You cannot be a Christian while being a submissive person who depends on another faction's military force to be able to reach his goals," Gemayel said.

"One cannot pretend to be a true Christian while sacrificing his country's freedom, sovereignty and independence in order to reach power," he stated. "Indeed, a Christian must above all safeguard his presence, but he must first preserve the values of Christianity."
