Lebanese University Professors Suspend Strike

The League of the Lebanese University Full-Time Professors announced on Thursday the suspension of the strike that was launched more than a month ago.

In a statement issued following an exceptional meeting, the league warned that the strike will be resumed if the political forces that are studying the 2019 draft state budget in the Parliament's Finance and Budget Committee fail to honor their pledges.

The LU professors' strike was in protest against the government's budget which reduces the allocations granted to the state-run university and cuts the salaries and social benefits of public employees.

The league's statement noted that seven items have been agreed on with Education Minister Akram Shuhayyeb, adding that the latter will be discussing them in a news conference slated for Friday.
