Tensions between the Future Movement and the Progressive Socialist Party simmered again on Sunday, as the renewed war of words between the two parties risks further undermining the government unity.

“Our brothers in the Progressive Socialist Party, your problem is that you don’t know what you want. When you do, let me know,” PM Saad Hariri tweeted on Sunday.

“The PSP is talking about loyalty. This is the joke of the day,” Hariri said in another tweet.

MP Bilal Abdallah fired back at the premier, saying that the latter is relinquishing his prerogatives and powers under the pretext of safeguarding the country.

“We wish you would respond to those who undermine the powers of your position every day,” Abdullah said in a clear reference to FPM chief Gebran Bassil.

An agreement to halt media campaigns between the two parties has been reached thanks to Speaker Nabih Berri’s mediation, according to NBN news channel.

PSP leader Walid Jumblat, therefore, posted a tweet urging his party officials and supporters to refrain from responding to any attack.

Moreover, Industry Minister Wael Abu Faour reportedly met with Hariri's political adviser, Ghattas Khoury, in a bid to ease tensions.

Abu Faour denied that the emerging conflict is due to the key administrative appointments that the government is set to discuss soon, yet emphasizing that Jumblat cannot be marginalized.

“No one can exclude Walid Jumblat in the issue of appointments. Anyone who can, let him try. There are issues that need to be discussed in a serious and cordial manner,” Abu Faour told New TV, calling for a review of the “historic relationship” between the PSP and the Future Movement.
