Lebanese University professors on Saturday announced that they will carry on with their strike, which has been going on for around six weeks, following a vote held by the League of Lebanese University Full-Time Professors’ executive committee.
The strike is aimed at protesting the government's 2019 budget which reduces the allocations granted to the state-run university and cuts the salaries and social benefits of public employees.
94 professors voted in favor of the strike while 46 voted against it, the league's head, Youssef Daher, said.
“We will not stop until our demands are met and we will not suspend the strike,” Daher stated.
Daher said that the league had sent a letter listing the of professors’ demands to the president, prime minister and speaker, as well as members of the government.
“We are facing a huge crisis,” he warned.
