Gemayel: Waste Management Is a Main Funding Source in Lebanon's Political Life

Kataeb leader Samy Gemayel on Tuesday deplored the ongoing failure to deal with the waste crisis that has been plaguing Lebanon since 2015, saying that the ruling authority is not sincere about solving this problem.

"Four years have passed and there is now a plan to expand landfills amid the absence of a study that assesses the environmental and health impact of sea dumping," Gemayel said during a conference held at the Saint Joseph University, Beirut, on "Solid Waste Treatment and Valorization Techniques".

"Solutions are available but there is no intention to implement them," he added. "The decentralization of waste managament and all other sustainable solutions are still mere slogans adopted by officials."

"Waste management is a main source of funding in the political life in Lebanon," Gemayel stressed. "Sukleen has been replaced with another company that dumps waste in the sea without prior sorting and management."
