Kataeb's Deputy-President Joseph Abu Khalil on Saturday said that history facts have been falsified to tarnish the party’s image, refuting allegations blaming the Kataeb for the 15-year civil war that broke out in 1975.
In an interview on Voice of Lebanon radio station, Abu Khalil stressed that the war was inevitable given that the Lebanese State had totally collapsed back then, saying that it is wrong to blame what happened 44 years ago on April 13 for the whole war.
“Hadn’t the Ain Al-Remmaneh bus incident taken place, the war would have erupted anyway at a different time and a different place. The state had already fallen in the face of the Palestinian factions in 1969," he explained.
“It is unfortunate to hold the Kataeb party responsible for the civil war. The falsification of facts is unacceptable; we must learn from them instead."
“We are not a party that seeks power. [...]. However, all of the Kataeb party’s accomplishments since 1936 are worth a hundred governments," the veteran official affirmed.
"We have never relied on the number of lawmakers or ministers that we get, but rather on the great deeds we make,” Abu Khalil concluded.
