Geagea Condemns U.S. Stance on Golan Heights

Lebanese Forces MP Sethrida Geagea on Saturday condemned U.S. President Donald Trump's statement that it is time to recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, saying that such a stance dashes all peace prospects in the region.

"Any peace requires first Israel's withdrawal from occupied lands," Geagea said in a statement.

"The U.S. stance blatantly goes against UN Security Council decisions, notably Resolutions 242 and 497 which rejects Israel's 1981 annexation of the Golan Heights and deems it as void and null," Geagea added.

"Stability won't prevail in the Middle East unless the Arab-Israeli conflict ends. This first step towards ending it is to restore the occupied Arab lands, notably Palestine, to its owners," Geagea concluded.
