Lebanon has decided not to issue an official statement condemning the recent events in Venezuela, viewing the situation as primarily a U.S. matter, Nidaa Al-Watan newspaper reported on Monday.
Officials said Beirut is reluctant to take any stance that could strain relations with Washington during a particularly sensitive period. Therefore, Lebanon is keen to preserve open channels with the United States as it seeks to avert the risk of war and secure American support in addressing unresolved issues with Israel. Taking a public stance against Washington now would run counter to those efforts, the sources said.
In an assessment of the broader implications, an official source said the developments in Venezuela carry indirect repercussions for Lebanon, with the most significant impact falling on the so-called “axis of resistance” and, by extension, Hezbollah.
The source said Lebanon would feel direct consequences only if the ongoing wave of instability spreads to Iran.
According to the source, international monitoring and diplomatic contacts indicate that the uprising in Iran is likely to persist and intensify, fueled by widespread public anger and supported by the international community.
