President Joseph Aoun convened an extraordinary meeting at the Presidential Palace in Baabda with Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam. The focus of the meeting was the ongoing situation on Lebanon’s southern borders and the continued Israeli violations, with discussions centered on the urgent need for action and commitment to international resolutions.

The meeting underscored the Lebanese state's unified position on the Israeli occupation of its territories. The attendees called for Israel's complete withdrawal from the occupied Lebanese land, in adherence to international laws and United Nations resolutions, foremost of which is UNSC Resolution 1701.

Lebanese leaders reiterated their firm commitment to Resolution 1701, emphasizing that Lebanon will adhere to all its provisions without exception, even as Israel continues its repeated violations and disregard for its clauses. Despite Israel’s continuing breaches, the Lebanese government maintains that full implementation of the resolution remains critical for regional stability.

The meeting also emphasized the vital role of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF). The leaders affirmed the army’s preparedness to assume its responsibilities along Lebanon’s internationally recognized borders, ensuring the protection of Lebanon's sovereignty as well as the security and stability of the southern Lebanese population.

Moreover, the leaders referenced the joint statement issued by former U.S. President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron on November 26, 2024. The statement, which called for a "ceasefire and related commitments regarding security arrangements and the full implementation of Resolution 1701," highlighted the international community’s resolve. The U.S. and France underscored the mutual understanding that Israel and Lebanon would accept these commitments simultaneously. However, the Lebanese leadership expressed frustration over Israel's failure to meet its international obligations, particularly regarding the full withdrawal from Lebanese territories.

In response to Israel’s continued evasion of its obligations, the Lebanese leaders announced the following actions:

1. Lebanon will approach the United Nations Security Council, which endorsed Resolution 1701, to demand that it take necessary steps to address Israeli violations and compel Israel to withdraw immediately to the internationally recognized borders in accordance with the resolution.
2. Lebanon considers the ongoing Israeli presence on any part of its territory as an occupation, with all the legal consequences that stem from such an occupation under international law.
3. Lebanon will maintain its efforts through the “Military Technical Committee” and the “Tripartite Mechanism,” as outlined in the ceasefire agreement signed on November 27, 2024, to ensure the full implementation of the security arrangements.
4. Lebanon will continue negotiations with the International Monitoring Committee and the International Red Cross to secure the release of Lebanese prisoners held by Israel.

In conclusion, the Lebanese leadership reaffirmed the country's unwavering commitment to its full national rights and sovereignty. They emphasized Lebanon’s right to utilize all means necessary to secure the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory and ensure the protection of its citizens and territorial integrity.
