Lebanon has officially notified the United Nations that it considers Hezbollah’s military wing an illegal organization, according to sources cited by Al-Hadath.
The notification also reiterated the Lebanese government’s decision to prohibit all military and security activities conducted by the group.
On March 2, 2026, Lebanon took the unprecedented step of formally outlawing Hezbollah’s armed operations and demanding that the group surrender its weapons to the State. The move followed an emergency Cabinet meeting amid rising tensions with Israel, after Hezbollah launched rockets and drones from Lebanese territory, prompting a strong response from Israeli forces.
The Cabinet emphasized that any armed activity outside the control of the State’s legitimate institutions is “illegal,” reaffirming that decisions on matters of war and peace fall solely under the authority of the Lebanese government.
