The Cabinet convened Thursday at the Presidential Palace in Baabda, where it approved a series of key administrative appointments and financial measures, including cash grants for military personnel and retirees.
The session was chaired by President Joseph Aoun and attended by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam along with the full slate of ministers.
Among the major decisions was the appointment of Georges Maarawi as Director General of Finance. Maarawi had been holding the post in an acting capacity and would now assume the role officially.
The Cabinet also approved financial grants for members of the armed forces, allotting 14 million Lebanese pounds to active-duty personnel and 12 million to retirees. The payments are set to take effect starting July 1.
In another set of high-level appointments, the Cabinet finalized the lineup of the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR). Youssef Karam and Ibrahim Chahrour were appointed as Vice Presidents, Ghassan Khairallah as Secretary General, and Houssam Itani, Georges Kallas, and Firas Abou Diab as part-time board members.
Ahmad Oueidat was named Director General of Ogero, the state-run telecommunications company.
During the session, President Aoun briefed ministers on his recent talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Prime Minister Salam also updated the Cabinet on his official visit to the United Arab Emirates.
