Lebanon and Israel Represented by Civilians for First Time at Ceasefire Committee Meeting

The Ceasefire Monitoring Committee concluded its meeting in Naqoura on Wednesday, with civilians representing both the Lebanese and Israeli delegations for the first time.

Former U.S. ambassador Simon Karam led the Lebanese delegation, joined by Lebanese Army officers under Brigadier General Nicolas Tabet, commander of the South Litani sector.

The meeting was also attended by U.S. envoy Morgan Ortagus, French and American representatives, and UNIFIL officers.

During the discussions, the Lebanese side focused on Israeli violations of the cessation of hostilities and the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which calls for a full cessation of hostilities and the deployment of UN peacekeeping forces in southern Lebanon.
