Lebanese Judiciary Targets Individuals Behind Unauthorized Rawshe Rock Illumination

Lebanon's Public Prosecutor, Judge Jamal Al-Hajjar, has initiated legal proceedings against two individuals identified as responsible for the unauthorized illumination of the Raouche Rock in Beirut last week.

The National News Agency reported that the judicial action follows the individuals’ failure to comply with a summons for questioning.

The act, which involved projecting images of Hezbollah’s slain leaders onto the landmark, occurred despite a ban issued by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam. Days before the ceremony organized by Hezbollah to commemorate its late leader Hassan Nasrallah, Salam issued a circular emphasizing the strict enforcement of laws governing the use of public land, maritime areas, heritage sites, tourist attractions, and buildings of significant national symbolism. Salam stated that the measure was taken “in response to a recent rise in instances where public property has been used for commercial, private, or political purposes, including the repeated exploitation of national monuments for propaganda or partisan activities.”

Following the commemoration ceremony, Salam condemned Hezbollah for defying the government ban, calling the act a “blatant violation” of state authority.
