The Lebanese and Israeli ambassadors to Washington held a meeting at the U.S. State Department on Wednesday, with the two sides agreeing to reconvene in October to continue U.S.-mediated negotiations, an Israeli official said.

Lebanese ambassador, Nada Hamadeh Mouawad, met with her Israeli counterpart, Yechiel Leiter, in what an Israeli official described as a positive meeting.

“They agreed to meet again in October to continue negotiations,” the official told The Times of Israel.

The meeting was more limited in scope than recent rounds of talks brokered by Washington. The next expanded round is expected to take place in Rome in October, after negotiations planned for this week were postponed because of scheduling conflicts.

The U.S. State Department said Washington remained committed to supporting the dialogue between Lebanon and Israel.

“The tripartite framework is the path to peace between Israel and Lebanon,” the department said, according to Al Arabiya.

Against that backdrop, the Lebanese and Israeli ambassadors met in Washington to discuss preparations for the next round of negotiations, Al Arabiya reported.
