Lebanese Army Reaffirms Discipline After U.S. Sanctions Against Officer

The Lebanese Army on Friday reaffirmed the discipline and loyalty of its personnel after a U.S. Treasury Department statement alleged that a Lebanese Army officer was involved in leaking intelligence information earlier this year.

In a statement released by the Army Command, the military said it had taken note of the U.S. allegations but stressed that it had not been formally notified of the matter through official communication channels.

“In light of the statement issued by the U.S. Department of the Treasury regarding the alleged involvement of a Lebanese Army officer in the leak of intelligence information earlier this year, and noting that the Army Command was not notified through the officially recognized communication channels,” the statement said.

The Army Command emphasized that all officers and soldiers of the Lebanese Armed Forces carry out their duties with “full professionalism, responsibility, and discipline,” acting strictly in accordance with the orders and directives issued by the military leadership.

It further underscored that the institution operates on a foundation of national duty and internal chain of command, with personnel expected to adhere closely to established rules and procedures in the execution of their responsibilities.

Reaffirming its core institutional principles, the Army Command stated that the loyalty of all military personnel lies “solely with the military institution and the nation.”

It added that members of the armed forces remain committed to fulfilling their national duties “free from any other considerations or external pressures,” in a message aimed at reinforcing internal cohesion and discipline amid the allegations.
