Lebanese Army Briefs Diplomats on Weapons Control Plan During Southern Tour

The Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) hosted a field tour on Monday for a group of ambassadors, chargé d’affaires, and military attachés, providing a firsthand look at the implementation of the first phase of the army’s plan in the South Litani sector and its broader missions across Lebanon.

The tour, led by Army Commander General Rodolphe Haykal, began with a visit to the South Litani Sector Command in Tyre. General Haykal welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the countries they represent, noting their ongoing concern for Lebanon’s stability.

“The army’s primary goal is to maintain stability, even as Israeli forces continue to occupy parts of Lebanese territory amid repeated attacks,” Haykal said.

He added that the tour was intended to reaffirm the army’s commitment to implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and the ceasefire agreement, while carrying out its assigned missions despite limited resources. He also emphasized that local communities, like all segments of Lebanese society, place their trust in the army.

During the visit, the delegation received a briefing on the army’s nationwide operations, the situation in the South Litani sector, and coordination with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Officials also reviewed the execution of the first phase of the army’s plan in the sector, carried out in coordination with the Mechanism overseeing the ceasefire.

The diplomats praised the professionalism and dedication of the Lebanese military, commending the sacrifices of its personnel in fulfilling their duties. The delegation was then guided by army officers on a field tour of key centers and positions included in the operational plan.
