Le Figaro: Hezbollah Secretly Rebuilding Despite Lebanese Disarmament Efforts

French daily Le Figaro reported on Saturday that Hezbollah is secretly rebuilding its military structure under the direct supervision of Iran’s Quds Force, despite Lebanese government efforts to disarm the group.

According to the report, the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and the destruction of the group’s top command during the recent war with Israel left the organization in disarray.

“For ten days, no one answered calls. We were like a body in a coma. Only the fighters in the south kept operating, following emergency protocols in case our number one disappeared,” a Hezbollah member named Wafik told Le Figaro.

About two weeks after Nasrallah’s assassination in Beirut, Iranian operatives led by Esmail Ghaani, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Quds Force, arrived in Lebanon to restore order. Within ten days, Le Figaro said, they rebuilt Hezbollah’s military hierarchy, though the group’s political leadership remains vacant.

The newspaper said Iran helped establish a new and more secretive framework for Hezbollah, separating its political and military wings and bringing in a “younger and more dynamic generation” of commanders.

Hezbollah lawmaker Ali Fayyad told Le Figaro that the organization now operates under a shorter, more discreet chain of command.

“Today, we have a new military structure that is very secretive. The chain of command has been shortened and no one knows who is responsible for what,” he said.

Although Hezbollah agreed to disarm in southern Lebanon as part of the ceasefire, the group continues to store weapons in the Bekaa Valley and north of the Litani River, according to the report.

Tehran’s strategy, Le Figaro added, appears to aim at maintaining Hezbollah as a deterrent force against Israel while avoiding another direct confrontation. A Western intelligence source described the group as “a snake crawling in the dark. They haven’t disappeared, they're just waiting for an opportunity."
