Lavrov Warns of "New Dangerous Level" in Israel-Lebanon Tensions

The Middle East is teetering on the edge of a significant regional war, and Russia is actively engaging with all parties to prevent such an escalation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday.

Speaking during a session of the Strategic Dialogue between Russia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Lavrov emphasized that the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, coupled with the global community's failure to halt the violence, has severely worsened the military and political climate throughout the region.

"The inability of the world community to stop the hostilities in the Gaza Strip and the mass deaths of its residents has led to a sharp deterioration of the military and political situation in the entire region—from the border of Lebanon and Israel to the Red Sea," Lavrov remarked, as reported by Russia's TASS news agency.

Lavrov also highlighted the escalating tensions between Israel and Lebanon, warning that the situation has reached "a new dangerous level" and could spark a broader conflict.

"The Middle East is once again on the threshold of a major regional war. It is our common responsibility not to let it happen," he added.

In light of these rising tensions, Lavrov affirmed that Russia is actively engaging with all involved parties in an effort to de-escalate the situation. "We are working with all sides to normalize the situation," he said.
