Katz Tells Lebanon to Act on Hezbollah ‘Before We Are Forced to Do More’

Israel’s defense minister warned Saturday that Lebanon would face serious consequences if Hezbollah continues to attack Israel, accusing Beirut of failing to fulfill its commitment to disarm the group under a ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024.

Speaking after a security assessment with Eyal Zamir, chief of staff of the Israeli army, and other senior defense officials, Minister Israel Katz said Israel would not tolerate attacks against its troops or communities originating from Lebanese territory. He also said residents of Israeli border areas would not be evacuated.

“You committed to upholding the agreement and disarming Hezbollah, and that is not happening,” Katz said in remarks directed at Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. “Act and take action before we are forced to do more.”

Katz stressed that Israel has no territorial ambitions in Lebanon but would not accept a return to years of cross-border hostilities.

“If Hassan Nasrallah destroyed Lebanon, then Naim Qassem will destroy it as well if this path continues,” he warned.
