The Lebanese Kataeb Party has stepped up preparations for the next parliamentary elections, reaffirming its commitment to the race and treating the vote as scheduled, party lawmaker Elias Hankach said.
In remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat, Hankach said Kataeb’s electoral machinery has remained active, alongside continued grassroots engagement across the country. He noted that the party was among the first to confirm the re-nomination of its four sitting members of parliament, a decision taken by the political bureau around six months ago.
Kataeb has also begun forming internal committees tasked with managing the upcoming electoral campaign, Hankach said, adding that the party has adopted a mechanism to name new candidates in several districts, including Baabda, Koura and the Western Bekaa. Those candidates, he said, have already launched on-the-ground outreach efforts.
Hankach said the party would contest the elections on the basis of a clearly defined electoral program that is updated ahead of every vote and serves as a framework for its work throughout each parliamentary term.
On alliances, Hankach said Kataeb’s approach is rooted in political understandings rather than ad hoc arrangements. He said lines of communication remain open with most parties within what he described as a broad political camp, including the Lebanese Forces.
