Kataeb Lawmakers Condemn Damascus Church Bombing as 'Cowardly Act of Terrorism'

Kataeb Party lawmakers condemned Sunday’s bombing of St. Elias Church in Damascus, describing the attack as a cowardly attempt to sow chaos amid growing regional instability. The explosion tore through the Greek Orthodox church compound in the Al-Dweilaa district during evening services.

“The attack on St. Elias Church in Damascus is a cowardly act of terrorism aimed at sowing chaos amid the military decline of the so-called Axis of Resistance,” MP Salim Sayegh wrote on X.

Sayegh expressed “sympathy and solidarity” with the Christian community in Damascus, highlighting Greek Orthodox Patriarch John X Yazigi, “the free people” of the Syrian capital, and Syrian President Ahmad al-Shar‘a in what he called their fight against extremism and defense of “our shared human values.”

Fellow Kataeb MP Elias Hankach also condemned the bombing, echoing Sayegh’s message in a separate post on his X account.

“The gates of hell shall not prevail against us… We will remain here, a beacon in this region,” Hankach wrote.
