Issa: Lebanese Army Chief to Visit Washington, But No Date Set

U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa, accompanied by Edward Gabriel, head of the U.S. Task Force for Lebanon, and several members of Congress, met with Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament Nabih Berri in Ain Al-Tineh to discuss Lebanon’s political and security challenges.

According to local reports, Issa told Berri during the meeting, “The purpose of this visit is to hear directly from you and help address key issues. Some aspects of the situation in Lebanon are being misunderstood, so it’s important to get your perspective firsthand to avoid misinformation.”

After the meeting, Issa emphasized that “Israel makes a distinction between its negotiations with the Lebanese government and its military actions against Hezbollah."

"What is happening now is an effort to find a solution," he said.

Issa also reiterated that U.S. support for the Lebanese Armed Forces remains ongoing. On the planned visit of the LAF commander to Washington, he said the trip will take place, though no date has yet been set.
