Israeli artillery and airstrikes hit multiple areas across southern and eastern Lebanon overnight and into the early morning, even as Beirut’s southern suburbs experienced a tense calm with no reported air raids for now.
According to local reports, the border towns of Ayta al-Shaab, Ramieh and Yaroun came under Israeli artillery fire, while Israeli warplanes carried out strikes on the towns of Majdal, Shaqra and Srifa.
Further north, Israeli aircraft struck the town of al-Rihan in the Jezzine region. In the western Bekaa Valley, airstrikes targeted the heights of Ain al-Tineh.
Earlier, Israeli fighter jets launched two separate waves of airstrikes on the town of Ansariyeh, following through on a threat issued to residents the previous evening. Since early morning, the Lebanese army has closed the main road running alongside Ansariyeh amid continuing Israeli warnings. The closure has caused heavy traffic congestion along the coastal highway leading toward Sidon.
Lebanon’s National News Agency also reported intense Israeli airstrikes on the outskirts of Ansariyeh.
Elsewhere in the south, the Israeli military carried out an overnight strike on the town of Majdal Zoun in the Tyre district. Israeli warplanes also launched three consecutive airstrikes targeting the al-Baraka area in the town of Kounine in the Bint Jbeil district.
At dawn, additional airstrikes were reported in Deir Antar and Shaabiyeh.
Residents of towns surrounding the southern city of Khiyam described a difficult night as the sound of artillery shells, illumination flares and gunfire echoed for hours. The clashes unfolded as Israeli forces attempted to advance toward the southern outskirts of the city amid heavy fighting.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military said it had completed a wave of airstrikes targeting branches of the Hezbollah-linked Al-Qard al-Hasan association, which Israel says operates as a financial network for the group.
According to the statement issued early Tuesday, Israeli Air Force strikes carried out a day earlier targeted facilities and vaults belonging to the organization. Over the past week, around 30 sites linked to the financial institution have been struck across Lebanon, the military said.
The Israeli army said it issued evacuation warnings to Lebanese civilians ahead of the strikes.
The military alleges that Al-Qard al-Hasan is used by Hezbollah to store funds, manage salaries for its fighters, transfer money from Iran and finance weapons purchases.
Moreover, the Israeli army reiterated its call for civilians across southern Lebanon to evacuate as the fighting continues.
“Hezbollah’s terror activities are forcing the IDF to act against it with force in the area,” army spokesman Col. Avichay Adraee said in a statement.
“Airstrikes are ongoing as the IDF operates with great force in the area. For your safety, we once again urge you to evacuate your homes immediately and head north of the Litani River,” he added.
The warning, first issued on Wednesday, has been repeated several times.
Israeli officials estimate that more than 500,000 Lebanese civilians have so far fled their homes in southern Lebanon since the escalation began.
