Israeli Defense Minister Warns of Action if Hezbollah Does Not Withdraw from Southern Lebanon

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz warned on Sunday that his country would be compelled to take action if Hezbollah does not withdraw from southern Lebanon, stressing that the group’s removal from areas south of the Litani River is a key condition for any agreement.

“Israel seeks the full implementation of the agreement in Lebanon and will remain steadfast in enforcing it to ensure the safe return of northern residents to their homes,” Katz said during a visit to an Israeli army base in northern Israel.

He emphasized that the ceasefire agreement hinges on Hezbollah’s complete withdrawal beyond the Litani River, the dismantling of its arsenal, and the elimination of its infrastructure by the Lebanese army.

“This condition has not been fulfilled yet,” Katz stated. “If it is not fulfilled, there will be no agreement, and Israel will be left with no choice but to act independently to secure the safe return of the northern residents to their homes.”
