Israeli Defense Minister Demands Lebanese Army Take Charge of Hezbollah Disarmament

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Tuesday that the Israeli army would “forcefully” enforce the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon and act against any threats posed by Hezbollah, as Israeli troops remain stationed at five strategic positions.

“Starting today, the Israeli army will remain in a buffer zone in Lebanon in five strategic outposts and will continue to enforce forcefully and without compromise against any violation by Hezbollah,” Katz said in a statement.

He reiterated Israel’s demand for Hezbollah’s full withdrawal beyond the Litani River, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1701, and called on the Lebanese Army to take responsibility for disarming the group under a US-led oversight mechanism.

“Hezbollah must withdraw fully beyond the Litani River line, and the Lebanese Army must enforce and disarm it under the supervision of the mechanism established under the leadership of the US,” Katz stated.

The defense minister underscored Israel’s commitment to security along its northern border, vowing to protect communities in the area.

“We are determined to provide full security to all northern communities,” he stressed.
