Israeli Airstrike Targets Hezbollah Commander in Beirut

The Israeli army conducted a new aistrike on Hezbollah's stronghold in Beirut's southern suburb on Tuesday, marking the fifth Israeli attack on Beirut since the beginning of the conflict with the militant group back in October 2023.

Later, the Israel army confirmed the death of Ibrahim Kobeissy, the commander of Hezbollah's rocket and missile division.

According to the Israeli army, several other high-ranking officers from Hezbollah’s rocket and missile division were present in the apartment where Kobeissy was targeted.

The Israeli military described Kobeissy as a key figure in launching attacks on Israeli territory.

“Over the years and during the war, he was responsible for the rocket launches at the Israeli home front. Kobeissy was a central source of knowledge in the field of missiles, and was close to the senior military leadership of Hezbollah," the Israeli military said.

Kobeissy had planned the Mount Dov kidnapping attack carried out by Hezbollah in 2000 when two Israeli soldiers were abducted and killed, the Israeli army said.

The two soldiers' bodies were returned in a prisoner exchange in 2004.

Footage from the airstrike scene show the top two floors of an apartment building, in the Ghobeyri area of Beirut's southern surburb, had been hit.

The Health Ministry announced that six people were killed and 15 others were injured in the strike.
