Israel Vows Action to Block Iranian Arms Transfers to Hezbollah

Israel will take decisive action to prevent Iran from smuggling weapons to Lebanon and its ally, Hezbollah, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, spokesman for the Israeli military, said in an interview with Sky News Arabia.

“We need to make sure that we are not threatened. We will make sure that Iranian weapons are not smuggled to Hezbollah,” Hagari asserted. “Hezbollah was defeated, and it is necessary to ensure that it does not receive weapons from Iran again through Syria. If they try to do it, we will act accordingly.”

Discussing the recently brokered ceasefire with Hezbollah, Hagari underlined the importance of maintaining peace and disarming militant strongholds in Lebanon.

“The Lebanese people and the Lebanese government must ensure that these places in Beirut or southern Lebanon are free of weapons,” he emphasized.

Hagari pointed to the significance of the next 60 days in ensuring Hezbollah does not rearm or breach the agreement, drawing parallels to violations following the 2006 ceasefire.

“We are committed to the ceasefire agreement. The sixty-day period serves as a gradual step to ensure that Hezbollah will not harm us or violate the agreement as happened in 2006. The Lebanese government and UNIFIL forces must do their job — it is in their interest too,” Hagari stated.

The army spokesman also noted Israel’s vigilance regarding Iranian activities in Syria, where Tehran has reportedly deployed reinforcements amid ongoing rebel assaults.

“We are closely following what is happening in Syria. We saw that the Iranian regime is sending reinforcements to Syria,” Hagari said.

He emphasized that Syria’s internal affairs should remain its own, saying, “Syria belongs to the Syrians, and what is happening in Syria concerns Syria and not Israel.”
