The Israeli military said it carried out airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in western Bekaa on Thursday, describing the attacks as a response to what it called the group’s “repeated violations of the ceasefire.”
The strikes followed a series of evacuation warnings issued by the Israeli army to residents of specific buildings in the western Bekaa villages of Sohmor and Mashghara.
In Sohmor, the Israeli army launched an airstrike after issuing a warning at 3:10 p.m. earlier in the day. According to local reports, the first residential building hit in the village, which contained several apartments, was completely destroyed. A second residential building in the center of the village, located near the public school, was also leveled. The nearby school sustained significant damage as a result of the strike on the adjacent building.
Lebanese broadcaster Al-Jadeed later reported that the Lebanese army had moved into Sohmor to inspect the two buildings that had been threatened prior to the strike.
The Israeli army subsequently announced that it had struck Hezbollah targets and sites in multiple locations across Lebanon.
A similar warning was later issued for the town of Mashghara, also in the western Bekaa. In aa post on X, the Israeli military’s Arabic-language spokesperson, Col. Avichay Adraee, said the army forces would soon strike Hezbollah military infrastructure there due to what he described as the group’s “illegal attempts to restore its activity in the area.” He again urged civilians in buildings marked on attached maps, and those in the surrounding area, to evacuate immediately and move at least 300 meters away.
