Israel’s military announced Monday that it has achieved "full aerial superiority" over Tehran and significantly degraded Iran’s missile capabilities.
Israeli army spokesman, Brigadier General Effie Defrin, said during a press briefing that the Israeli Air Force (IAF) had “gained complete control of the skies over Tehran” and had successfully disrupted “extensive parts” of Iran’s latest attacks on Israeli territory.
Defrin revealed that Iran launched 65 ballistic missiles and dozens of drones in two separate barrages from Sunday night into Monday morning. Most of the projectiles were intercepted by Israeli air defenses, though three struck targets in Israel, killing eight people.
Defrin said Iran had intended to fire at least double the number of ballistic missiles, but many were thwarted by preemptive Israeli strikes.
According to the military, Israeli fighter jets targeted 20 ballistic missiles on the ground inside Iran before they could be launched overnight. In parallel, approximately 50 aircraft and drones struck Iranian missile depots and command centers where Iranian troops were preparing to execute the launches.
Since the start of the ongoing conflict, Israeli forces claim to have destroyed more than 120 Iranian ballistic missile launchers, making up about one-third of Iran’s total arsenal.
The Israeli army also reported launching multiple waves of airstrikes in and around the central Iranian city of Isfahan overnight, striking more than 100 military sites. These included missile storage facilities, operational headquarters, and other strategic targets.
