The Israeli military is preparing a propaganda push targeting the Lebanese government ahead of its anticipated announcement on ending Hezbollah’s disarmament process, Israeli media reported on Tuesday.
According to Maariv, the Lebanese government, which has postponed the statement in recent days, could issue it within the next 24 hours or by the end of the week. The campaign is reportedly aimed at signaling to the Lebanese public and the international community that Beirut has not fulfilled its obligations, while Hezbollah remains heavily armed with thousands of rockets and weapons systems designed for offensive operations rather than self-defense.
Israeli military intelligence and the army’s northern command are continuing to collect information on Hezbollah’s weapons depots, headquarters, and training camps, particularly in southern Lebanon. Officials hope the intelligence can be used to pressure Beirut into implementing its commitment to disarm the group.
Over the past weeks, Israel has reportedly been preparing operations to weaken Hezbollah, including limiting its offensive capabilities against Israel’s home front, targeting personnel, and striking depots and bases across Lebanon.
Hezbollah, in turn, raised its alert level in the past 24 hours in anticipation of a potential Israeli attack, Maariv reported.
The developments come ahead of a Wednesday meeting of the ceasefire monitoring committee, which includes representatives from the United States, France, the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), as well as Lebanese and Israeli officials.
The Lebanese cabinet is also scheduled to meet next Thursday to review the army’s plan to disarm Hezbollah, amid U.S. pressure and concerns over a possible expansion of Israeli military operations more than a year after the destructive war with the group.
The coming days are expected to be pivotal for Lebanon’s political and security landscape, with both domestic and international actors closely monitoring the government’s next steps.
