Israeli Airstrikes Hit Sidon and Tyre Areas as Fighting Escalates Across Southern Lebanon

Israeli forces intensified air and artillery operations across southern Lebanon and the western Bekaa on Wednesday, issuing fresh evacuation warnings, carrying out dozens of strikes, and reporting new operations against Hezbollah infrastructure, as hostilities continued despite efforts to preserve a ceasefire agreement.

Early Wednesday, Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee issued an urgent warning to residents of the southern Lebanese towns of Ghassaniyeh, Houmine al-Fawqa and Ansariyeh, calling on them to evacuate immediately.

“In light of Hezbollah’s violation of the ceasefire agreement, the Israeli military is compelled to act forcefully against it,” Adraee wrote on X.

“We do not intend to harm you. For your safety, you must immediately evacuate your homes and move at least 1,000 meters away from the villages and towns to open areas. Anyone who remains near Hezbollah operatives, facilities or military assets is putting their life at risk,” he added.

The warning came as military activity intensified across southern Lebanon. Overnight, Israeli artillery shelled the towns of Sohmor and Yohmor in the western Bekaa Valley, while two rockets landed in the outskirts of Qlayaa, sparking a fire, according to local reports.

At dawn, Israeli warplanes struck Kfar Remman in the Nabatiyeh district before carrying out a second raid on nearby Bnaafoul. The attacks were accompanied by low-altitude flights by Israeli fighter jets over southern Lebanon, Sidon and areas east of the coastal city.

Israeli aircraft later launched a series of strikes targeting Nabatieh, Zawtar, Kfar Tebnit and Habboush. A separate strike targeted a motorcycle in the town of Tayr Debba in the Tyre district, with preliminary reports indicating one fatality.

The violence later spread to Sidon, where an Israeli airstrike hit a van in the Al-Bawwaba al-Fawqa area opposite the Maronite Archbishopric in the city center. Two people inside the vehicle were killed, and the strike triggered a large fire that spread to several parked cars nearby.

Throughout the afternoon, Israeli warplanes expanded their operations, striking Jabal al-Rafii in the Iqlim al-Tuffah region, Tayr Harfa, Khirbet al-Daoudiyeh between Marwaniyeh and Najjariyeh, Sarafand, Qlaila south of Tyre, Braashit, Hanniyeh, Wadi Hassan, Bazouriyeh, Mansouri, Majdel Zoun, Houmine al-Fawqa, Deir Qanoun al-Nahr and Ghassaniyeh.

Two additional airstrikes targeted the Sajd Heights in the Jezzine district, with explosions heard in Sidon and surrounding eastern areas.

According to preliminary figures, Israeli strikes on Tyre and surrounding areas had killed 13 people and wounded 15 others by mid-afternoon.

The casualties included nine dead and seven wounded in Tayr Debba, three dead and three wounded in Deir Qanoun al-Nahr, and one dead and five wounded in the Popular Housing area of Tyre.

Rescue teams continued searching through rubble in Tayr Debba, which was struck repeatedly by fighter jets and drones. Lebanon’s National News Agency reported that at least nine people were killed there and several others wounded, while a number of residents remained missing beneath collapsed buildings.

The agency’s correspondent said the town was targeted by eight separate airstrikes carried out by warplanes and drones.

Elsewhere, six airstrikes hit Majdel Zoun during the morning, while a strike on Siddiqine killed two people and completely destroyed several homes.

At midday, Israeli warplanes struck and destroyed a building opposite the electricity station near the Kfar Remman-Nabatiyeh roundabout.

Heavy artillery fire also targeted the Mazraat Buyout al-Sayyad area and the outskirts of Mansouri, as well as the towns of Qlayla, Mansouri and Zebqine in the Tyre district. Additional shelling struck Deir Mimas, Srifa, Kfardounine and Qlayla.

Separately, Israeli forces demolished several homes in the town of Ghandoorieh in the Bint Jbeil district.

The fighting also claimed the life of former football player and youth coach Issam Reda. Tyre-based Tadamon Sour Sports Club announced that Reda, a former player and coach of the club’s youth teams, was killed in the strikes on Tayr Debba.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military said it had expanded operations against Hezbollah infrastructure throughout southern Lebanon.

Israeli army spokeswoman Ella Wawiya said on X that Israeli forces had attacked Hezbollah positions in Tyre and several other areas over the previous 24 hours.

“In Tyre, six infrastructure sites used by the Hezbollah terrorist organization to advance attacks against Israeli civilians and Israeli military forces operating in southern Lebanon were targeted,” she said.

According to Wawiya, one of the sites had been used by Hezbollah operatives to launch explosive first-person-view suicide drones toward Israeli troops.

The Israeli military said it had also struck armed rocket launchers prepared for immediate use, Hezbollah operatives in areas where Israeli forces were operating, and additional infrastructure belonging to the group elsewhere in southern Lebanon.

Separately, the Israeli military announced that two individuals who approached Israeli troops operating in southern Lebanon had been detained and transferred to Israel for questioning.

“Earlier today, Israeli soldiers identified two suspected individuals who approached the area in which soldiers are operating in southern Lebanon,” the military said in a statement.

“Following the identification and in order to rule out any threat, the soldiers apprehended the suspected individuals, who were transferred to Israeli territory for further questioning,” it added.
