Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, announced on Monday that economic sanctions would be imposed on a Hezbollah-led fundraising campaign aimed at supporting victims of the September pager attack.
The donation campaign, operated across various crowdfunding platforms, raised tens of thousands of dollars through credit cards, bank transfers, and PayPal. These funds were intended to bolster Hezbollah’s operatives and help restore the group's capabilities after the damage sustained during the pager operation.
"We will thwart any attempt by Hezbollah to recover and will act in every way to ensure the safety of our citizens," Katz said in a statement.
The sanctions were imposed following recommendations from Israel's National Bureau for Counter Terror Financing (NBCTF).
Katz stressed the importance of cutting off Hezbollah’s funding, calling it a vital step in reducing the group’s power.
"Every dollar denied to Hezbollah is another step toward weakening the organisation," he said. "This decision demonstrates our zero-tolerance policy and sends a strong message to anyone considering funding terrorism under the guise of humanitarian aid: we will block every attempt to harm our security."
Paul Landes, head of the NBCTF, highlighted the ongoing collaboration with the intelligence community to dismantle Hezbollah’s financial networks.
"Our efforts are focused on stopping the flow of funds to Hezbollah and other terrorist organisations," Landes explained. "The sanctions imposed today represent a significant milestone in preventing Hezbollah’s recovery and cutting off its financial support."
