Forty kilograms of Hashish hidden inside a piano destined for Ecuador has been seized at Beirut International Airport, the Internal Security Forces (ISF) announced Thursday, without specifying the date on which the seizure took place.
In a statement, the ISF said it arrested two members of the network, with the initials T. M. (born in 1990, Lebanese) and R. (born in 1964, Lebanese).
Seizures of drugs concealed in food and other shipments have increased in Lebanon in recent years. On April 6, more than 25 kg of cocaine, concealed in a shipment of bananas from Ecuador, was seized at the Port of Beirut. On April 3, police intercepted 27 kg of hashish hidden in coffee bags in Beirut. A week earlier, they seized nearly 150 kg of hashish hidden in bags of za'atar (a mixture of thyme and spices), sumac and keshek (fermented yogurt).
