Israeli Occupation and an Armed Hezbollah Are Not Sustainable for Lebanon
Lebanon’s government is facing mounting challenges. It is trying to balance the demands of the US to disarm Hezbollah, a militia and political party controlling much of the country, against those of Iran, Hezbollah’s main sponsor, to do no such thing. For a government that took power only recently after years of political vacuum, as well as for the country as a whole, this is a critical test of sovereignty.

Israel Can Inflict Even More Damage If Hezbollah Doesn't Disarm
The Lebanese government’s decision last Thursday to endorse the objectives of a US-drafted plan provoked a negative response from Hezbollah and, to an extent, its ally within the Shiite community, the Amal Movement. However, the two parties, realising the risk of isolating themselves further, did not withdraw their ministers from the government of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.

Iran Urges Western Powers to Adopt ‘Constructive’ Approach to Revive Nuclear Deal
Iran’s top diplomat Hossein Amirabdollahian called on Western powers on Tuesday to adopt a “constructive” approach for the revival of the 2015 nuclear pact.
Amirabdollahian also added that other parties to the deal should take the “necessary political decision” to salvage the pact during his meeting with European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell in Jordan.
US President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of the pact in 2018 and reimposed US sanctions on Iran. Talks to restore the nuclear accord have resumed but have been at a stalemate since September.
