IT'S fair to say that Lionel Messi has won a fair amount of silverware in his illustrious career - and he could be about to add another Ballon d'Or to the cabinet.
The talented star is highly regarded as one of football's greatest ever players - and he has a cabinet full of silverware to prove it.
Lionel Messi started his career with Newell's Old Boys in Argentina as a youngster before moving to Barcelona in.
And it was with the Catalan Giants where the superstar really made his name.
He won an abundance of trophies in legendary fashion.
Messi has also won silverware for his national side including the Copa America title 2021.
In total, Messi has won 44 trophies throughout his career.
As a player for Barcelona, he took home a whopping 35 trophies during his 17-year run with the first team.
The 5ft 7in magician picked up 10 La Liga titles in Spain, as well as seven Copa Del Rey trophies.
Messi also won four Champions Leagues, eight Spanish Super Cups, three UEFA Super Cups and three Club World Cups.
Since Messi moved to PSG in 2021, he's won two more trophies, a Ligue 1 title and a Trophees des Champions.
His wait for a trophy as Argentina's captain took a little longer, however.
It wasn't until 2021 that he led his side to a huge Copa America win over Brazil in the final.
Argentina then went on to beat Italy in the UEFA Cup of Champions final at Wembley Stadium.
The talented star was then part of Argentina's winning World Cup squad in 2022.
Speaking to the press afterwards he said: “Obviously I wanted to end my career with this, I can’t ask for anything more."
He added: “I was able to win the Copa America, the World Cup … it was given to me almost at the end.
"I love football, what I do. I enjoy being a part of the national team, with the group.
"I want to continue playing a few more games being world champion.
"It’s anyone’s childhood dream. I was lucky enough to have achieved everything and this is what I was missing, it’s now here.”
In August 2023, Messi added to his silverware.
He scored a signature goal to lead his new team Inter Miami past Nashville FC in a penalty shootout to capture the Leagues Cup title and score the club's first trophy.
Speaking after the match, he said: “I came here to play and to keep enjoying soccer which is what I loved my whole life and I choose this place because of all those things.
“I can tell you that I am very happy with the decision I made and for how my family and I live our day-to-day lives and how we enjoy the city and this new experience and how the people received us from the first day, from the people of Miami and the people of the US in general."
