Hezbollah Targets Haifa Tech Facility in Retaliation for Deadly Pager Blasts

Hezbollah launched approximately 85 rockets from Lebanon into northern Israel early on Sunday, according to the Israeli army. The barrage followed several overnight rocket attacks, escalating the conflict between the Lebanese militant group and Israeli forces.

The Israeli army confirmed that some of the rockets were intercepted by its air defense systems, but others impacted several areas, including Kiryat Bialik, near Haifa, and Moreshet in the Lower Galilee. In Kiryat Bialik, three people were injured, and the blast caused significant damage to local property.

Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attacks, stating that it specifically targeted a facility belonging to the Rafael defense technology firm in the Haifa area. The group described the assault as an "initial response" to a series of pager blasts in Lebanon last week that resulted in the deaths of more than 30 Hezbollah members and wounded thousands.

In retaliation, the Israeli army initiated a fresh wave of strikes against Hezbollah positions in Lebanon. The military said it would release more details later but indicated that its air force had successfully intercepted several aerial threats and rockets aimed at civilian areas in Israel.

Overnight, Hezbollah reportedly launched 24 rockets at Israel, all of which were intercepted by Israel's air defenses, according to the Israeli army. Large pieces of shrapnel fell in the Jezreel Valley as a result, slightly wounding one person and damaging a barn.

The Israeli army also confirmed that Hezbollah targeted the Ramat David Airbase, launching several barrages of rockets throughout the night and early morning. However, the military noted that its airstrikes in southern Lebanon likely prevented further rocket launches by destroying hundreds of rocket launchers aimed at northern Israel.

The exchange of fire between Hezbollah and the Israeli army has intensified in recent days, with Israeli jets targeting hundreds of Hezbollah sites across southern Lebanon. In total, the Israeli military said it had attacked 290 Hezbollah targets in the region, with an additional 110 strikes carried out in the early hours of this morning.
